ASK A QUESTION Serenade for the New Dead
This was yesterday November 1 in a house very near where I live.
These musicians are serenading those who have died in the past year.
What would one call this kind of music, any idea?

Thanks for posting the address, I enjoyed the video. I wish that I could answer your question, but I don't know what type of music is in the video.
I also dont know what this music is as it appears to be a mongrel concoction
It is a Mexican Ranchera or Ranchera Mejicana. I'm almost sure. Maybe one of our Mexican friends could confirm this.
I wondered if you could call it ''canción por el muerto'' = song for (on behalf of) the dead
or lamentación por el muerto = lamentation for the dead
I am not saying that this is the natural way the Spanish would express this but it would certainly be understood to efer to the activity you mentioned.
