Michelada: I always thought was a beer with Clamato juice (or tomato juice).

But hold on -- a guy at the gym today (a native Mexican) says it is beer (preferably Budweiser or Corona) with lime juice and chili powder! WOW I thought I got around. I have never ever heard of such a thing.

Anyone heard of this?

So you are saying a "red eye" as we call tomato juice and beer is a micheleda? Cool, I love it that way.

I've had it the lime chili powder way. And seen the clam / tomatoes Budweiser things, yuck clam. Who the heck drinks clam juice?

  • Was the lime/chili powder way good ... and served over a bar that way? No matter I had never heard of it this way in any of my travels. - Daniel Oct 11, 2011 flag

Well, some people prepare it different ways but that's pretty much what I know like a michelada.

Hi,

The way to prepare a michelada depends of the region of Mexico where you are:

In Mexico City is: beer preferably black(I'm sorry guys but here Budweiser is not a good beer, is softer) with lime and salt.

In the suth of Mexico is: beer preferably black and salt.

In other regions: beer preferably black, Crosse & Blackwell (I don't know the name of this, please help me), lime and chili powder.

I love Negra modelo with the last ingredients.

In some places you could find mix of michelada, you can add it orange, chamoy, mango, etc.

Cheers!!!
