Hola a todos

I've just ordered the first two Harry Potter books in Spanish so I can practice my reading. I've read both of the English versions so figure they would be reasonably easy to read because I already know the story.

Has anyone read them in Spanish and what are they like to read? Ok? Quite hard? Really Hard?

Does anyone have any suggestions for other books that might be worthwhile getting in the future?

I have also thought about trying one of the Harry Potter audio-books for the car so I can practice some listening on the way to work, but again, Im not sure if they are worth it or not?

Gracias

Formarse

The above link is from our reference section learning resources.Learning resources

I am about 6 chapters into the first Harry Potter- I never read the English- and find it quite readable. I prefer to have a computer in front of me because I like to look up 1-2 words per paragraph, although I have been able to read it and still generally get the picture without that. I am reading it mostly directly in Spanish, although occaisonally have to think through the meaning in English (mentally translate) to get it- mostly however it is straightforward. Sometimes after I have read a few pages I go to this site:link text and see if I really did understand it correctly.

  • Harry Potter is 161-167 in the Formarse site, first 6 are word, last is pdf I believe. - Stadt Jun 17, 2011 flag

Just as a heads up, you can find the audio versions online for free usually by searching audiolibros gratis. BUT! most of the free versions have a robotic narrator SO you must also ad "con voz humana" at the end of your search.

The less popular the book the less likely you will find it narrated with a human voice.

Other great books to read in Spanish that you can find for free online: 1984, To Kill a Mockingbird (Matar Ruinador), Fahrenheit 451, and my personal favorite by Ernesto Sabato: El Túnel (this one is actually an Argentinian classic).

If you have trouble finding them just PM me. I have most of them on my hard drive so we could figure out a way to transfer them to you!

  • Gracias :) I haven't even read To Kill a Mockingbird in English (how bad is that!!) I always intended to, jeje - Lachicafeliz Jun 17, 2011 flag

The first two Harry Potter books are pretty easy reads in Spanish for intermediate students. All you need to know is:

  • La varita mágica -> magic wand
  • El hechizo - > (magic) spell
  • La lechuza común -> barn owl

Have fun!

I was looking into these, but I'm on a short budget and can't get any of them. Does anyone know where a free audiobook or copy of these may be?

Wow, did you find Harry Potter audio books in Spanish? I'd love that. The series is not super easy to read because of the many vocabulary items describing things that are literally "out of this world," fantastic, imaginary. However, the important thing is that a book holds your interest, and you can let a lot of words go by without looking them up as long as you are being entertained and getting the gist of it. You will learn a LOT. For recommendations of lots of other good books in Spanish, you can type books in Spanish in the Answers searchbox and find some great threads on the topic. Happy reading!

I did not read them but I watched the first two on DVD from the library after watching the English versions. It was a wonderful experience. The children's voices were clear, no one talked too fast and the background music did not intrude over the dialog.. After the first two movies, the directors did artsy stuff in the sequels so the movies were more complicated to understand.
