How do you say "He missed the shot!" in Spanish?

I can't seem to locate the equivalent for "missed" in this context for formal occasions like playing pool, etc.

él ... el tiro!

No lo metío! (possibly this but is there a better way that is more informal)

"fallar" sounds right to me
