ASK A QUESTION Translation - "I did it on my own"

@Feliz: I think mismo has slightly different meaning that I can't explain, like "to spite you" I think? I don't know. Por mi cuenta / por mi propia cuenta / por mi lado / por mi propio lado. I do like lo hice solo though, but then a native probably needs to come clean all this up, since it's all muddled on what I mean and I might have some wrong.
I just remember that mismo is not as good as cuenta / lado here. Gracias.
Hola, croberts,
Lo hice yo mismo.
I did it myself.

I just wondered, out of interest, if two of the phrases posted here for I did it on my own actually have the same meaning
I realize that Spanish and English are different languages but in English
I did it on my own means/ = I did it without any help (But other people could have been present without helping me)
I did it alone =can mean I did it without help or I did it and no-one else was present
There is a subtle but distinct difference in meaning here and I would like to know if the Spanish language recognises that nuance....in the sentence construction.
I think it should be: Lo hice yo mismo.o Lo hice por mi cuenta / Lo hice por propia cuenta.
I admit to initially thinking it could be: lo hice sólo but then thought that that could mean I did it alone without anyone else being there which I don't think was the intended meaning I think it was meant to suggest I did it without any help from anyone else.
Please correct me if I am wrong here

Thanks for the clarification Feliz. It was meant to be the answer to the question - Did you take formal spanish classes - to which the reply would have been "no, I did it (meaning studied spanish) on my own. ie without help rather than alone without anyone. In this case "sólo" would not be appropriate.
Sorry but I feel you are wrong croberts. Lo hice solo = I did it without help. Lo hice a solas = I did it alone without anyone.
