Could the word arriba be used in translating both of these phrases?

Mi padre fue arriba del Norte
Mi gato estaba arriba en un árbol.

Thanks!

Thanks, Gustavo. I was wondering if it might be similar in Spanish to the way it is in English, that people say "up" in English when they mean north, but you don't say "arriba" for "el norte'"
