ASK A QUESTION Congratulations Stadt! One Million Points!

Thank you for the recognition.
It is sort of an odd thing to celebrate. I look at learning Spanish as analogous to learning to play basketball. Doing flashcards to learn words and then to practice them over and over until they are indelibly seared into one’s mind is, to me, like the practice sessions one does to acquire any skill.
I cannot recall ever congratulating my stepson on the number of practices or drills he did in basketball. The congratulations would always come when he did something like this:
(Sorry for the shameless plug, but I think any parent would understand)
So I think I will feel much more of a sense of accomplishment when (for instance):
- I can regularly create complicated sentences that Cogumela can actually understand.
- I can read something in Spanish that is not fairly simple without having to consult a dictionary and “work it out”.
- I can regularly post in Spanish.
- I can watch TV in Spanish and understand it well, instead of getting just some of the words and if I am lucky the general gist of it.
- I can actually speak a sentence that I have not thought out in advance.
I look forward to point at which I no longer need to do flashcards and can expand and maintain my vocabulary through use in context instead of flashcards, and move on to the stage that Lazarus has described in several of his recent answers:
However the encouragement to keep at it is always welcome, and I do appreciate it. This is a wonderful site and I probably would have given up a long time ago if it were not for the encouraging atmosphere here.
Felicitaciones.. Stadt!!
Thanks for loving Spanish language
