Para empezar creo que soy una persona altruista como consequencia de mi concentrar en ayudando gente.

To begin with I believe that I am an altruistic person as a result of my focus (interest) on helping people.

Concentrar? Focus? Concentration? Interest? How do you make a verb into a non verb? Use the preterit?

Should it be ayudando (helping) or ayuda that implies helping?

"Para empezar, creo que soy una persona altruista como resultado de mi enfoque (de interés) en ayudar a la gente." This is what the translator will give you and I would say the same. Every now and then the translator gets it right.
