Era profesor. He was a teacher.

Ken is correct: it should be Era profesor (o maestro)

(or for a female teacher era profesora/maestra

The verb Ser is used to indicate professions and the imperfect form era is used here because the person was being or used to be a teacher..

The imperefct tense is used to describe an action or a state of being that was continuous in the past and its completion is not indicated.

"Fue uno maestro" = "he was a teacher"

Somebody corrects me if I am wrong.

Thanks.

El fue un maestro

El era un maestro

Or you can say it without "El" at first..

  • "Él" should be omitted (and it is written with an accent). You don't say "un" here. - lazarus1907 Jan 20, 2011 flag
