estribor y babor (starboard and port).

I came across them in the audio book "The Voyage of the Dawn Treader" by C.S. Lewis in Spanish and I got a kick out of knowing them plus they sounded both funny and pleasing to the ear.

A long time ago I was watching an American movie of gunmen in the Far west and suddenly one of them wanted to go to a cathouse.Oh my God!. Stopped the movie and went to the dictionary but the word did not come... So I asked my teacher that the word meant but she told me I did not learn English with the dirty outlaws of the Wild West.

I love the words of cowboys and killers of the old Films.I love that old word that my huge dictionary don´t know.

Y en castellano me gusta “trasto” que significa “cosa inútil o que estorba”(piece of junk). "No dejes trastos en la habitación, me decía mi madre"

  • La frase "the word did not come" suena un poquito mal. Debería ser frases como "the word could not be found (anywhere in it)," "the word wasn't there," or "I couldn't find the word (anywhere in it)." Adding "anywhere in it" makes it sound like you... - webdunce Dec 25, 2010 flag
  • ...you searched fairly thoroughly. Ooh, justo ahora me acordé que mi favorito sería "but the word was nowhere to be found." - webdunce Dec 25, 2010 flag
  • Just to help you: " so I asked my teacher 'what' .(not that) ..... the word meant" :) - FELIZ77 Dec 25, 2010 flag
