It depends on the application. For embedded firmware it's C, hands down. Some people like C++, but I think it uses too many resources, plus it's very difficult to debug.

For Windows GUI applications I love C#. It's fast to write, almost bullet-proof, and at least 2 generations ahead of C++. I can't wait for the .NET framework to be ported to Linux.

For cross-platform applications Java is the standard, but I don't care for it, myself. I much prefer Python, though that does mean deploying the Python Virtual Machine via frozen binaries if the user doesn't already have the PVM installed. Java is so prevalent that almost everyone already has the JVM.

I'm not a web developer, but Ruby on Rails is the flavor of the day in that area.

That's a very subjective question smile. All languages have their pros and cons. All languages are beautiful in their own way. If you judge the language, then you are unconsciously judging the people that speak that language. I don't believe that any one language is better than the others.

  • I agree although to many natives their own language can appear the best lol :) - FELIZ77 Dec 19, 2010 flag

My Father and I developed a sign language when I was young ,it consisted of

A wrong word from me resulted in a ,slap, a repeated wrong word, two slaps and a

swipe, an unnecessary demand would provoke the strap , sullen disobedience

created a full frontal assault . It was a language which gave quick positive results

and a student who failed to head ,or read ,the warning signs from the head of faculty

would show visible signs of his inattention , a repeat offender could expect to receive no weekend leave for an extended period , it happened but once. wink

i think all languages have beauty of some kind and I dont have an opinion on which is really the best. I'll just say Spanish because I want to learn it so badly. Also English because I understand it well. French is nice as well. With the right dialect for my ears, it sounds very lovely.

I think sometimes its just a matter of how exposed to the language you are. I have several friends that speak portuguese (Brazilians) and when I first heard them speak I thought, this doesnt sound as nice as Spanish and I didnt have a taste for it. However, now that I hear it everyday, it sounds much better.

I would really like to sign though.
