ASK A QUESTION "The only thing I don't like" translation
How would you translate "The only thing I don't like is..." into good Spanish?
Rather than saying just "No me gusta", what can I add to the beginning? I seem to vaguely recall having to use "Lo que" at the start of the sentence, or something to that effect, but I can't quite remember.
Thanks in advance,
Ryan

You could say:
Lo único que no me gusta es... = The only thing I don't like is...
It turns the adjective único into a noun.
lo único que no me gusta
lo que no me gusta
you can say either...
lo que no me gusta de comer nueces es tener que abrirlas (The thing I don't like about the nuts is have to crack them)
lo único que no me gusta de los carros deportivos es que consumen mucha gasolina (The only thing I don't like about sport cars is that they consume a lot of gas)
- So to say "the only thing I don't like is the cat because it smells bad" you would say "lo que no me gusta es el gato porque huele mal"? - Ryan Oct 23, 2010 flag
- you can say it that way... but you need to check the context, it's ok if you've just entered a room and you're asked if you like the room, it really depends - Tonyriva Oct 23, 2010 flag
Around here (Nicaragua) "huele" refers to pleasant smells, "jiede" to bad smells.
Lo único que no me gusta es el gato, porque se huele malo.
- porque huele mal, "se huele" he smells himself, in this case it can be "he thinks of himself"... - Tonyriva Oct 23, 2010 flag
- your sentence means "The only thing I don't like is the cat, because he thinks of himself to be bad" - Tonyriva Oct 23, 2010 flag
- Yes, I agree with Tonyriva. - amy_moreno Nov 22, 2010 flag
