When do you use Mucho/a and when do you use Muy?

Mucho/a - much, so use it before nouns.

Much pleasure- mucho gusto

much money mucho dinero

  • all nouns.

Muy - very, so use it before a adjective. -

Very good, - muy bien

very silent, - muy silencioso

very ordinary - muy ordinarion

See if you can spot the difference in the way that they are used here


→Tiene mucha ansiedad - He has a lot of anxiety/nervousness.
→Está muy ansioso - He is very anxious/nervous.

→Hay mucha gente que piensa así - There are a lot of people who think this way
→Hay muy poca gente que piensa así - There are very few people who think this way

→No creo que tenga mucho dinero - I don't believe that he has much/a lot of money.
→No creo que sea un hombre muy adinerado - I don't believe that he is a very wealthy man.

You can also use mucho/mucha in front of singular nouns, meaning "much".

Mucha ansiedad = much anxiety
Mucha gente = many people (gente is singular in Spanish)
Mucho tiempo = much time
Mucho valor = much value

"mucho" is an adjective and "muy" an adverb. Use accordingly.
