ASK A QUESTION Any suggestions for our trip to Granada, España
Can any of my fellow SpanishDict.com members give my wife and I any suggestions regarding our upcoming trip to Granada, Spain? We would like see and do things beyond the average tourist fare. One of our challenges is to locate a leather bound version of, "Don Quixote de La Mancha." We couldn't find one in Barcelona last year.
Post your suggestions in Spanish or English. Photos encouraged!

Hi Joe, to go to Granada and not see la Alhambra...is a crime of course![]()
But...what many people do not know, you have to book a visit in advance, well in advance!
You can visit the Alhambra, los jardines y por supuesto debes ir a "Sacromonte".
Esta es la información oficial, también hay visitas guiadas turísticas.
El famoso "Patio de los Leones"
Thinks to do in Granada. If you don't have the time to visit the Alhambra (and even if you do,) walk up to Mirador San Nicholas as mentioned in the post above. It's a long pull up from Gran Via Colon through the Arab souvenir and tea shops (very atmospheric) up to the top. The little square is very pleasantly lively with tourists and Spaniards alike. Usually some flamenco buskers and an old lady selling castanets. You can then wend your way behind the church past the bars and down through the old Moorish arch "Arco Pesas" into Plaza Largo a picturesque bustling little square, sometimes a market, sometimes filled with tables and chairs for patrons of the bars. Then just follow your nose, plenty to explore, you could even make your way from there to Sacromonte for a Flamenco show in one of the caves. We were staying at a yoga retreat an hour south of the city and had a great post siesta afternoon and evening in Granada.
I'm sorry Joe. I really don't have any ideas or suggestions other than you should bring my family with you.
We can split the diff and meet at JFK in Queens.
Have a great time!!!!

My only visit to Granada was when I was seven years old, but I still remember the Alhambra!

I am just beginning to learn the geography of Spanish speaking countries. So just knowing where you are going in the world is a good start for me. I understand this city is at the base of the "Sierra Nevada mountains, at the confluence of three rivers, Beiro, Darro and Genil, at an elevation of 738 metres above sea level yet only one hour from the Mediterranean coast, the Costa Tropical. Nearby is the Sierra Nevada Ski Station, where the 1996 FIS Alpine World Ski Championships were held."
February and March is still chilly so take some warm clothes!! Since I like to fish maybe you can rent some fishing gear and catch the big one near the Mediterranean Sea!
Or maybe you can rent some skis. Hope you find the book, too! Thanks Joe and have a great time!

While you are there, don´t be afraid use "ico" in place of "ito" and "illo." Lazarus, whose wit I sorely miss, tells me that "ico" is commonly used in that area and not just on the island of the "Riqueños."
Also take a short trip north of Granada to take in some of the local color:
