Hi everyone, I just had a question with the translation of earrings... the flashcards use 'los aretes' as the translation, but I have also been taught 'los pendientes'. Is there a difference in use between countries, or is there a difference in the type of earrings, such as studs or dangly earrings?? Not a very important question- but I would love to know if anyone could help smile

I think that this is a great question!

I believe that there are regional variations, but both "aretes" and "pendientes" would be understood throughout the Spanish-speaking world. "Pendientes" is the choice in Spain, and "aretes" would be heard in Mexico.

In some countries "pendientes" denotes the dangling earrings and "aros" refers to hoops.

Hi...

There's no difference between them. Well in my country we use "los aros", but the others that you post are more used in the rest of the countries.

Well as far as I know they are both 'earrings' but I was more used to hearing 'pendientes' in Spain. Also 'aros' is another word but I think that is just for 'circular earrings'.

Hi Claire , I made a search and I think that :

los aretes : is used in Spanish ( Latin America )

los pendientes : is used in Spanish ( Mexican )

Hope this helps smile

earrings = Pendientes Here in Costa Rica, you hear/see this in jewelry stores, shopping malls, etc.

earrings = aretes In Costa Rica, you rarely hear this in the stores, but if you SAY this word in any Spanish country, they will know what you are saying if you use it properly
