So at the end of school in May I encouraged my son to sign up for Spanish this term, and he got in! Yay! I'm excited for him. I'm thinking of volunteering to help in the class as well, I heard they only speak Spanish during the class. So if the teacher agrees to let me help out, that will be great for me too!

  • At what age do you start seventh grade? - fontanero Aug 9, 2010 flag
  • Hi,fontanero, in the U.S. usually at age 13. It depends on what age the child started school. - revmaf Aug 9, 2010 flag
  • I wish I'd started learning Spanish at that age ! Its great for you both. - fontanero Aug 9, 2010 flag
  • He just turned 12 in May, though some kids in his year are going to be 13 soon. So the age here is 12-13. - amykay Aug 9, 2010 flag
  • That's great, Amy! But once the teacher knows you, you'll no longer be able to do your son's homework for him :-) - JulianChivi Aug 9, 2010 flag

That is totally awesome!! Ok, I'm so bias but seriously I think kids should take a language, any language!!! I think Spanish is a G R E A T choice but learning another language can open so many doors for you!! Did I mention that I think S P A N I S H is the best choice?!! smile Good for him!!

Great news! I hope that they do only speak Spanish in the class...lots of good instruction and learning with no or very limited English.

I remember having a short unit of Spanish in the 7 th grade with a student teacher. I can still remember the alphabet and a little dialogue she did with us. That is a great age to start. You will learn so much in class. Most schools don't offer it around here until high school.

I took Spanish in 5th and 6th grade but I don't think I can remember much from back then, except that my teacher was super nice.

  • My Spanish teacher from high school moved to Colombia, now I talk to her on facebook! - amykay Aug 9, 2010 flag

That is really good news Amy, I can only imagine what it would be like to have another person in the house learning a new language.

I remember 7th grade. We had half a year of Latin and then they decided it was a dead language. (I am dating myself aren't I?)
