ASK A QUESTION "Damped" in the engineering sense?
Can anyone give me some Spanish vocab to help me talk about damping ( in the engineering sense.) An example sentance I want to translate would be: "The display needs to be damped so that it doesn't jump around all the time."

A damper is a device which reduces the amplitude of mechanical, electronic, acoustical or aerodynamic oscillations. For this, you might try amortiguador (I have also seen some references use apagador, but this seems to be more used to describe dimmer switches).
►amortiguador - [very commonly used to describe shock absorbers in cars but also may be used in the general sense as a damper as well as in the following manner]
☼ amortiguador de luz - dimmer
☼ amortiguador de ruido - silencer, muffler
☼ amortiguador de sonido - sound absorber/sound damp
☼ amortiguador de vibraciones - damper (mechanical)
☼ amortiguador de choques - shock absorber
☼ amortiguador de las oscilaciones - surge damper
☼ amortiguador de (líquidos) viscosos - viscous damper
Here are some related terms
►amortiguar - to damp
►oscilación amortiguada - damped oscillation
►amortiguamiento - damping
For your sentence I would guess you might try something like:
Hay que amortiguar la consola/pantalla para evitir/prevenir que la imagen del monitor tiemble.
Hay que amortiguar la consola de visualización/visualización en consola para evitar que la imagen en pantalla se mueva
Hay que amortiguar la consola/pantalla/el monitor para evitar las deformaciones en la imagen.
I've never heard damp used in this way as a damper is something that eliminates vibration. How about Fixed ... Fijo
