In English synonyms are two words that mean the same (or almost the same) thing. Are there two words in Spanish that mean the same thing for these words? Any help in this area would be appreciated.

  • wash (English we say "wash" and "clean") in Spanish you can say "lavar" and ?
  • sack (English we say "sack" and "bag") in Spanish you can say "bolsa" and ?
  • hungry (English we say "hungry" and "starving") in Spanish you can say "hambriento" and ?
  • ill (English we say "ill" and "sick") in Spanish you can say "enfermo" and ?
  • dinner (English we say "dinner" and "supper") in Spanish you can say "cena" and ?
  • bathe (English we say "bathe" and "wash") in Spanish you can say "bano" and ?
  • look (English we say "look" and "see") in Spanish you can say "mirar" and ?
  • purchase (English we say "purchase" and "buy") in Spanish you can say "compra" and ?

I've never seen anything that looked more like homework, which we don't do here. I bet you could rewrite it so that it doesn't look like homework though...

Just to let you know. I am a speech-language pathologist. I work with students that have disabilities and some are native Spanish speakers. (I am from Arizona.) There aren't many speech and language materials out there for Spanish-speaking disabled students, so sometimes I pay to get some materials translated. However, the translator I just used did a direct translation and I wasn't sure if the synonym page I was going to use made sense in Spanish. So just to let you know-- No, this isn't a homework page for myself, as I'm not taking any type of Spanish class. It was just a list of synonyms I was going to use with a student on Monday in therapy. I mainly use this forum to double check the work of my translators. (Sometimes even they make mistakessmile
