I always wanted to say this English and I've never been able to say it,

"Los símbolos de la patria son: la bandera, el escudo, la escarapela y el Himno Nacional"

I am talking about the symbols that represent my country. All children recite this at school as a sign of respect and love for the country.

I don't know what word is equivalent to "patria".

Our national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal, wrote a poem before he was executed. The poem is Mi Ultima Adiós, and it starts with "Adiós, Patria adorada...". When we were taught that in school, patria was translated as "motherland". Do you think that's the meaning you are looking for?
