Question

I took notes on Toucans for my Spanish class and translated them from English into Spanish. I would really appreciate it a lot of you could spend a few moments to look over my translation. (What I meant to say is below the Spanish version.) Thank you all very much.

Los tucanes son aves gregarias, vuelan en grupos de 3 a 12 años. Se siguen unos a otros en las cadenas de un árbol a otro, por lo general permanecen en el dosel superior. Tucanes son aves juguetones. Toucans are gregarious birds, they fly in groups of 3 to 12. They follow each other in strings from one tree to another, usually staying in the high canopy. Toucans are playful birds. For example, they toss fruit to each other. They grab each other’s bill in playful contests. Most Toucans live in tropical and subtropical forests . The number of some Toucans has decreased due to deforestation in Central America. They live in nests. They do not migrate unless in search of food. There are 42 species of Toucans and 5 genera. They are fairly large birds, 12 to 24 inches in body length. They have short and stout wings, long and wide tails, strong legs and feet, and large hallow beaks.

I think it should be: se tiran la fruta las unas a las otras.

Agarran a cada picos de ley en otros concursos lúdicos.

Again, se agarran los picos las unas a las otras. Also, I don´t think "de ley" belongs there -- maybe it got left over from a mistranslation (the kind of bill that becomes a law)?

Ellos tienen a corto y grueso alas

no personal "a" needed here.

No migrar

Again, you don´t need the infinitive here, but the conjugated form, "no migran".

Ellos tienen a corto y grueso alas, cola larga y ancha, piernas fuertes y los pies, y los grandes picos de hallow.

I think put the adjectives after the nouns, and probably you do need the definite articles, and make sure the genders match (i.e., "las alas cortas y gruesas").

Hollow is "hueco" or "vacío".
