ASK A QUESTION How do I let people know that the accuracy of my flashcards is not to be trusted?
I find creating flashcards for review purposes extremely helpful, but I do know that I make a lot of errors. Originally, I thought that my cards could only be seen and used by me, so there was no problem. I just recently found out that others also can use them. I don't want to mislead anyone. In fact, some of the cards, although very useful for me would be a waste of time for others.

No personal cards are to be trusted. I discovered that long ago and thought about emaling some folks about the fact that they were learning incorrectly but then I thought.....nah.
When you create (or edit) the cards, choose "not listed". I'm almost certain this keeps others from seeing them. ![]()
p.s. If you need a more detailed explanation, let me know.
They should, by default, be private (not accessible to others). About a year ago, Heidita dragooned (with threats of eternal banishment to the "dunce corner" or other, similar, displays of disfavor) a number of us into reviewing all of the flash card lists. The intent was to make public the lists that "passed muster" and to make private (or possibly delete) those that did not.
Since that time there has been a (possibly two) change(s) in the software which may have nullified our efforts. The overall intent (to the best of my knowledge) is to maintain the distinction between public/private lists.

Not true at all!!! jejeje, but I have a good memory, and that was a really great favour, all effort gone down the drain, unfortunately, and it took forever too...![]()
The list actually ARE unlisted by default, but most users think their lists are unique without double checking on their accuracy and the result is obvious, we have a looot of misleading flashcards on the site.
However, when you open the "user sets" part, this warning is shown:
NOTE: SpanishDict cannot guarantee the accuracy of user-created flashcards.
Gappy, very thoughtful, but this is not necessary, however, if you wish me to revise your lists, just send me the link![]()
Gappy, you might be able to help us, actually, tell me which list should I not be able to see, I can see you have a lot of lists....so which have you ticked as "unlisted"?
Heidita, all of my lists should apparently be unlisted by default. I never intended any of them to be listed. Your offer of revisions was very kind, but in truth, (I know this may be hard to understand) the lists are very important to me as they are with all the inaccuracies. I just don´t want to mislead anyone into thinking that the lists would be useful for them. Some might be, but, others, definitely not. That´s why I wanted to keep them private for my own use.

HI gappy, Valerie and I made a test last night, she unlisted one of her lists, and it did not show even to me,, unlisted , ticked as such, lists, are not shownd on the site. I wonder if you could check that again, just click to edit the lists.
then, if I check your lists, you can edit the mistakes. Then the lists would be much more useful for your own use too, as with mistakes, I don't know if that will do you any good. Editing some mistakes will take no time at all.
Actually, I just looked at the two first sets on display, if all of them are so accurate...you will have nothing to edit-)
Hi Heidita. You might want to check this example. My ¨verbs Tumble Books¨flashcard is labelled as unlisted, yet, apparently l7people have chosen it as their fav. How is that possible? I re-edited it as ¨listed¨and it still showed as unlisted. I have many other flashcards labelled as unlisted, but, they show by an icon or by being chosen as a fav that they have been read. I use my flashcards as reminders of what I have read or studied. I sometimes put in phrases that I cannot understand. Later on, when I find out what the phrase means I re-edit. I also put in notes about points that I want to remember. And, I often don´t put in the proper punctation. So, some of my flashcards are ¨work in progress¨ and definitely would be confusing to others. But, again, they are extremely useful to me this way.
I have used several of your flashcard sets and thought they were good. Since others used mine I thought it was alright. If you want to send a message warning people of inaccuracies why not make that one of the flashcards: "these cards....(answer) may not be accurate"? I have seen everything from absolute insanity to chemical formulas made into flashcards here. Some in three languages all at once. I see no harm in making a card that is a warning message. I have enjoyed your flashcards very much. Personally I don't think your flashcards need a warning.
- Thanks, but, I believe that if the integrity of the flashcard system is to be maintained then unlisted cards should not be put out for general use. - GAPPY Jan 25, 2010 flag
- I agree totally, but as long as any one person can use another person's personal cards all must be allowed to do so. I do agree though, cards that no one else could see, would be great for personal study. - billy-jones Jan 25, 2010 flag
