Student of the week?

Question

does anyone know if this follows a calendar week or if it is just 7 consecutive days? I would like to find this out, because although I have NO points yet, I plan to make a big splash. I need the motivation that I can win a badge. That's why I love this site. As someone just pointed out in another post, a badge doesn't mean anything if you don't learn, but if you can use it as motivation to learn, a badge can mean a lot.

This site does more than just make you learn, it makes it fun, and provides you with motivation to learn.

Well, I received the student of the week badge this week, and it begins on Sunday. It adds up all the points you earn during that week until Saturday night, when it awards the badge. You can see where you rank compared to other people on the flashcards page.

Also, do not be distressed if you think that it will be difficult to win this badge. Because...

1. A badge is a badge. It really doesn't do anything but maybe make you feel good for a day.

2. You should maybe look at finding different motivation to be using this site. On Spanishdict, we all try to learn more Spanish and help others learn Spanish. If you need a badge for motivation, I would question why you are using the site... Not that I am suggesting that you not be part of the Spanishdict family. I just think that you should truly consider why you want to learn Spanish, and use that as motivation, rather than a badge.

Also, if you really need badges for motivation, try to get perfect scores on your lessons. You receive badges for each lesson (not flashcard set) that you score perfect.

I wish you luck on getting the student of the week badge. If you want it bad enough, you will find it easy to learn in order to gain points. You can send me a message if you feel discouraged through the process. I know the feeling, and I am here for support.

I love wearing mine to town. People think I am a war hero or something. Seriously, badges break the monotony and make the learning experience fun. They make learning Spanish like unto a video game. This website is nearly perfect. I would be very careful with any changes. Welcome to the family. To win student of the week is a great honor in my opinion. Go for it! I like what you say about intending to make a big splash here. That tells me you want to be a part of the community and make contributions to the overall good of the site by posting things that are helpful, informative, and useful to others.

I think that if you focus on those things, you really won't worry about badges or points, those will just come. And you will find the site is a lot more enjoyable for you as well.
