How do you know when you need to use se? or when it's lo la or le-- or los las or les. I find this stuff pretty abstract and confusing.

I find this stuff pretty abstract and confusing.

Then you are very perceptive as it is pretty abstract and confusing. We have Reference articles on both the use of object pronouns and se as an object pronoun as well as a reflexive pronoun.

Take it step by step. Leave the more advanced study of leísmos, laísmos, loísmos, regional uses, uses with specific verbs, etc. until you have mastered the basics. When you can tell us the difference between an accusative and a dative pronoun then you're ready for the next step. (just kidding) grin
