How are points for voting on questions and answers awarded?

I know that you are awarded a single point for voting but I have also noticed that many times when I vote, it is not credited to my reputation score. I also know there is a daily limit to reputation points but at least for me, I have not yet come close to that limit.

Also, if I do not get a point for voting, does the person I vote for get their points?

Here's how it goes. When you vote someone up, you get 1 rep, but, after you vote 10 people up in one day, you don't get any more rep for voting people up for the rest of the day, they still get their ten points, but you do not get your one. Hope this helps

Also, in case you didn't know:

Vote = 1 (possibly as I said above) for person voting, 10 for person being voted up

Accepting an answer = 20 rep for person being accepted, nothing for person accepting

• I already knew all that. I did my homework before I asked the question. The site does not answer the question of why some points are awarded and some are not and if the other person getting the vote is getting their points. At least I can't find it. - elcielo Dec 6, 2009

The person above me gave a good suggestion.I think there is a 10 point limit on accrued points for voting no matter if you have reached the magic 200 points in a day .SOmetimes it is a mystery how the computer awards the points though.The times I checked in the past even if I didn't get a point for voting someone up they got points for my vote.

I wonder if there is not some confusion as to what the computer considers "a day"...perhaps there are times when we are thinking it is the next day but the server is still considering us to be in the same 24 hour period or some such.
