ASK A QUESTION How would you say "I love you" if your talking to a friend verses a romantic interest?
In Honduras I notice the people say Te quiero and Te amo, but I don't know which would be correct to say to a close male friend (I'm female) who is only a friend and not a romantic interest. Is there a "safe" way to say this so it is understood to be friendship only?

To clear up the difference between "Te quiero" and "Te amo"....
"Te Quiero" is what you say to a close friend. Depending on the relationship you had with the male involved you could say it, however, it could be misleading if they have feelings for you. Its easy to say between your girl friends and family members though.
"Te amo" is something you say between your romantic partner and not usually between any other relationships.
However, I like the way Eddy said it. That would be safe way to say it without sending any mixed signals to him.
I hope that helps!!
It is common to hear " I love you like a brother " so to say Te querio como un hermano should make things clear to him, thats providing he has no incestious desires.
