Can someone explain this to me? i read it as "how many times (to do, to make-hace) that you dont go to the beach?"

How long have you not been going to the beach?

(There is no "ago" without the past tense in the subordinate clause. See examples in above article).

How long has it been since you went to the beach?

I agree with the later comment. No desde in this original sentence.

hace mas de diez años que la ultima vez que voy a la playa.

...hace más de diez años (desde) que la última vez que fuí a la playa.

The last time that I went to the beach was over 10 years ago.

It has been more than 10 years since the last time that I went to the beach.

preterite is needed in the subordinate clause. See examples in above article.

Hace más de diez años desde que fuí a la playa.

Hace más de diez años desde la última vez que fuí a la playa.

Or (as an immediate response to the question) Hace más de diez años. / Más de diez años.

It means "How long has it been since you last went to the beach." This sentence cannot be translated word for word. If it were, it would read, "How much time does it that you don't go to the beach," which of course would be pure gibberish. Another way to say it would be, "¿Cuanto hace que no hayas ido a la playa?"

I get asked this question a lot being here in Florida. I live two miles from the beach y hace mas de diez años que la ultima vez que voy a la playa.

B=now

C=the time during A-B

Cuánto tiempo hace xxx=how long time has been pasting xxx

C=que no vas a la playa= that you don't go to a beach

in this case ; hace =nearly "ago" = time in past
not "since"
