Absolutely not. The rules clearly state that the ruling on the field is final, no special circumstances. If some are still unsatisfied, then they should petition the league for a rule change. Perhaps making some plays reversible or making it a penalty to place your hands in such a position as to accidentally make contact with the ball. Replaying the game would be a significantly larger violation of the rules.

Further, to suggest that that single referee error cost the team the game is ridiculous. To suggest as much is to suggest that there were no other referee mistakes in the game; or that if there were, none could in any way have resulted in one team gaining an advantage over the other. In my opinion, Ireland looks quite silly in that they're still complaining about this game. I understand the initial reaction, but nothing can be done. It was a close game and 'dems 'da breaks.

Huy, ¡pero qué tontería! Del Barsa tenía que ser!! mad

Bueno, I don't agree, if we wanted to repeat all matches where a mistakes has been made by a referee, we would not have a league but a repetition contest!

The rules clearly state that the ruling on the field is final,

HIthere, good one!!

I think that game is the reason why they should adopt instand replay in soccer. It's used in most other sports including football, baseball and even some mixed martial arts. With instand replay, most sports have found that there are quite fewer calls that referee errors cost the game for one team or another.

I completely agree with mctague. It is a scandal.

¡Aupa Irlanda! ¡Platiní ten decencia y repite el "match"! tongue wink

A rematch is - as pointed out in other answers here - not possible. It is a bit sad tough as morality should prevail - not cheating.

When will FIFA understand that the need for video ruling during a game is absolutely pressing???

What is really interesting is how the culprit himself (Henry) suddenly manages to put himself in the position of a pretended victim!!!

Oh poor Henry cheated - got stick as deserved - and now he might want to quit the national team. Poor little cheater - it is even more shameful than the handball.

  • I don't think it's fair to call what was done cheating. It was a hand ball, which although illegal is similar to a foul or a double dribble in basketball. Had Henry personally paid off the refrees then I would be with you. - hithere3387 Nov 24, 2009 flag
