How would miramos be used?

My son answered "we watched" after this on his test and it was marked wrong.

Actually past tense would also be "Nosotros miramos", I believe it should not have been marked wrong.

Mirar- to watch or look at

In this case, Mirar is in the "nosotros" form of the present tense conjugation. Therefore "We watched" is incorrect because "watched" is past tense. Literally it would be "We watch, or we look at."
