Let's not confuse punta y punto.
sacar punta: sharpen a pencil or be rude
punto here: point, like our reputation points
the teacher asked if you didn't like her conversation class in spite of her giving you the extra point in her class.
- Gracias, I am often confused! which is what I apparently did here - cheeseisyumm Nov 23, 2009 flag

I don't know if this is true, but a teacher told me once that it can also mean to sharpen your pencil...
sacar punta: sharpen a pencil or be rude
El Estudiante: No estaba sacando punta, solo estaba sacando punta.
La Profesora: Estabas sacando punta porque estabas sacando punta.
.
The Student: I was not being rude; I was just sharpening my pencil.
The Teacher: You were being rude because you were sharpening your pencil.
"Sacar el punto".. it might mean "to bring a theme up",
There is an expression: sacar el punto a relucir = "to introduce a topic into the conversation"
