Please tell me what is so sexy about SpanishDict?

Question

I did a username search on this site and there are more than 130 names with the letters S E X in the name. Most of them have no badges, reputation or learning points, so I figured that they were looking for something here and didn't find it.

Some of them have a few points for learning and then appear to have given up. I assume that they tried a few lessons and then realised that it was "French" that they wanted.

Am I missing something here? What is attracting all these strange people to sign up for a Spanish language learning site?

Hi Mort

It isn't that they have "sex" in their name, which looks like they may be seeking admission to some porn site, but the fact that it is "sexy or sexi or sexiii or even esSEX" which is a county in England. So banning any of these is out of the question, especially as I live in Essex, hehe.

It's just the language guys... Everyone knows how sexy words with the "rrrrrrrrrr" sounds are, and they show it by making creepy usernames that scare the jeepers out of mortimerfran!

To answer a little seriously, I think there are some younger students coming onto this site thinking it's going to be a quick and easy fix to their lack of effort in the classroom. This being said, the culture of today's students is a little more free with their mindset of entitlement, so putting something with the word sEx in it doesn't phase them in the least. They might even think it is a site like Facebook or MySpace or any of the other sites out there. Again, my humble opinion and I could write on this for a long time but...

thats a good question, but why would you look up the user's with names of SEX in them? i think the question is did YOU come here looking for something. this is a spanish learning web site, not a sex site.

This is the twenty-first century. People are just weird nowadays... our society is way too sexually charged. I'm glad that some people out there realize that there's more to life than sex.... like good ol' español!
