I'm wondering how to indicate "floor" as in what you walk on in the house. I know that "piso" can mean floor, but am thinking it is closer to the English word "story", i.e., that building has several stories. I want to say something like "I mopped the floor" Thanks, Richard

Interestingly enough, in addition to "el suelo", the word "piso" can also be used to mean "floor" in the sense of "mopping a floor". I have seen signs that say "piso mojado" in public places.

  • I've seen signs like that too. Our lesson here (1.13) teaches "fregar el suelo" for "to mop the floor". They are synonyms. - Goyo Nov 19, 2009 flag
  • Thanks - good answer. I've seen that sign too, but didn't think about it when I was racking my brain for the word - rmshea7 Nov 19, 2009 flag
