Correct me if I'm wrong but I think you are trying to say that you should be left with the feeling that you have lived the life experiences of different characters after reading a good book. True? this is why I suggested "diferentes vidas."

I think your original sentence suggests that when reading a good book you should feel as if you have lived through many past lives or that you would live many lifetimes while reading it.

Very interesting sentence. You shouldn't be affraid to be more explicit in you construction.
