There are "ranchers", "shepherds", and "goatherds". What do you call a person (in Spanish) who raises pigs? I can't even find the word in English. To me "pig farmer" sounds very derrogatory, which is not the meaning that I desire. I am trying to explain to a friend what a "earmark" ("political pork") is; and I wanted to explain a little bit of it's history.

  • "Cerdólogo" me suena bien apto si se refiere al político que pegue los gastos extra a un proyecto ley. :) - DonBigoteDeL Nov 16, 2009 flag

Pig farmer is a term used.

granjero de cerdos = criador de cerdos = pig farmer

granjas porcinas = criadero de cerdos = pig farm

porcicultura

Following aloshek's lead I found:

swine herdsperson = swine herdsman = porqueros

  • porcicultor = pig farmer - Mokay Nov 16, 2009 flag

Another name for pig farmers is swineherds. Other names are hog farmer and pork producer.

I forgot completely about "swine". And I am from "farm country", although I don't live on a farm. There are more cows here than people. Now, "Run like a Deere". smile

  • I don't live on a farm either, but I sure worked on them enough...my favorite color is still John Deere green - lol - aloshek Nov 16, 2009 flag

Chancho means pig in Spanish.

Choncha in Cuba means gorda, fat. But it might have other meanings somewhere else, who knows?

I have to walk around here with an eraser in my hand. One never knows.
