parches de consumo para paliar la pobreza de unas relaciones por frotación

I've come across this in a novel! What does this mean???

My best guess:

parches de consumo = patches that can be used once. (consumed when used).

para paliar = to alleviate, to treat a wound.

la pobreza de unas relaciones = relations poverty, that something is not right in the relationship. (human relationship maybe)

por frotación = applied by friction or rub.

So, they are describing some magical patches that can cure problems related to relationships and that they can be used only once by rubbing or friction.

I hope that makes sense in the context of the book.
