Words that end in "-ción", "-dad" and "-tad" are also feminine.
Words that refer to females are femnine, and words that refer to males are masculine. Example: "la mujer" - the woman, "el hombre" - the man.
Days of the week and months of the year are masculine.
Letters of the alphabet are feminine.
Words that end in "-ma" tend to be masculine, but not 100% of the time. "El problema" - the problem.
Some words you just have to learn. When you get a list of nouns, be sure to learn the "el" or "la" with them, so that way you learn the gender immediately.
