I would like to see some tongue twisters in english and spanish. I think it is a good way to practice your learning tongue. I only know 2.

  1. A mí me mima mi mamá.
  2. miel de abeja.

  • Can I vote you up 20 times? I love "rolled r´s" - aloshek Nov 12, 2009 flag
  • It would be good if you could! Roliing of R`s is not hard for me, but I understand it is for many native english speakers? - Thomas-de-No Nov 12, 2009 flag
  • It was easy for me because when I was very little my Grandma taught me to purr like a cat (same as rolling r's), but it was comical watching the others, literally, spit their r's out. - aloshek Nov 12, 2009 flag

I found one decent list of spanish tongue twisters here: here

An example: Pablito clavó un clavito en la calva de un calvito. En la calva de un calvito, un clavito clavó Pablito. (Pablito nailed a little nail in the bald head of a little bald man. In the bald head of a bald man, a little nail Pablito nailed.)

What is really interesting is that a native english speaker that has not advanced too far in spanish find spanish tongue twisters significantly easier than tongue twisters in english. Personally I think this is because we don't have the associations of sounds with the other words that trip up the native speakers.

Tongue twisters exist in every language, even sign language! (They call them finger fumblers.)

A quick google search give this list of english tongue twisters: here

"Cabral clavó un clavo. ¿Qué clavo clavó Cabral?"

"Cabral" is a surname and it makes this very difficult to say.

I slit a sheet. A sheet I slit. Upon a slitted sheet I sit.

(Be careful, when your tongue gets twisted on this one, you end up swearing, but what makes it funny is that it stays in context)

  • Good one, I will give this one to my boyfriend who is from Puerto Rico. It will be a good laugh, and I know he will say it over and over again. - 0021954c Nov 12, 2009 flag
