Like Facebook, or any other community website, SpanishDict should implement that system that allows us to add friends and update our status, etc.

If this website becomes more community-based, I am sure more people will be committed to this website.

It will be a great opportunity for many people who learn English or Spanish since they can make friends while they are learning.

What do you guys think?

I prefer the forum the way it is. My personal feeling is that by creating buddy lists and so on, we start to separate the group. As far as I´m concerned, all of Spanishdict is my buddylist.

I appreciate your thread and the thought, but I have to go with Goyo on this one. I think if we were constantly updating our status, it might take away from the learning. We would waste so much time seeing what everyone was up to and forget why we logged on in the first place. I know I would...I'm easily distracted. wink

I think if you are here long enough, you will find that you become friends with certain people naturally. You always have the option of sending a private message if there is something you would like to share with someone. The reason I haven't been on Facebook in ages is because, for me, it is time consuming. I go on to check once in awhile, but I could really do with out "buying farm animals" and "sending people drinks". On this site, you can have a laugh with people and get to know them, but at the end of the day...we are learning.

Hang in there...We will all be your friends soon!!! smile smile

I think we make friends in the process of learning here. I am fine with this model and if I wished for the other I would be active on Facebook.Just one old lady's opinion.

Why would we need a buddy list? SpanishDict is fine the way it is. LOL grin

Hey Victory! I think we are adding friends already! It just happens differently than other community sites. It is more like the old fashioned way. smirk

You see someone that says something you like or agree with, then you answer their question or comment on their answer. Pretty soon you will start figuring out who is who and what they are like. You can even direct comments to them or mention them in the forum, and you will see the same thing back to you. Sending PMs is another way, but all the interchange makes the friendship even closer.

If you want to find out more about someone in particular, look at their profile. At the bottom of every profile screen you can see what questions they have asked and what answers they have given.

And about status, well everything we do pops up in the box to the right. If you see someone you know has just asked a question, given an answer or voted on something, then clicking the link will show what it was.

The format here puts everything out in the open. big surprise Foibles and all! red face But I like it that way. grin I hope you will too! wink

Hi Victory,

We don't do it here. It's been discussed a lot, as you can tell by typing "friends" in the Answers section search box.

Click my link. There really isn't any reason for a "buddy list".

This place actually used to be very much like facebook. I must say we had a wonderful time there. Older members like Moe , Guillermo, Quentin...they all remember the place well and we had a lot of interacting with people. I think we sometimes miss this feature...

But we also like this place more concentrated on learning. grin

And I've already made some friends here, without any "add-to-the-list" tool (I hope so wink )

I think we should make this a dating site....you know like plentyoffish.com or Okcupid.com but where we also learn Spanish! smile

I don't know about having statuses, but it would be good to have friends I think. Like it or not, sometimes it is easy to forget the name of an online acquaintance.

I also would rather there be a normal forum instead of this "answer" business, but I won't speak too much of that.

I wouldn't want to be attacked or anything.

Not too many positives here - and I agree!

By making this site more like the facebooks and the twitters I think the focus will be moved away from learning.

Also I think adding friends etc would create "cliques" which wouldn`t serve the purpose of this site. It would make it more difficult for a newcomer to come here and learn by interacting with other users.

I really don`t see why we should make this site more like facebook. We just have to accept that there are different sites, for different purposes. And that is the way is should be wink

I guess you're not an old timer, because we used to have that option on SpanishDict. You also had a "wall" like on facebook where you could paste your own pictures, videos, blog, leave comments, post links, etc. It was nice as a social site like facebook, but I don't think it enhanced your study of Spanish much. Speaking of facebook, do you get the Spanish grammar lessons that they post? They have Spanish groups there.

Oh, but we all update our status all the time. It´s called "Latest Activity"
