There is no simple answer to you question. The main problem faced by monolingual speakers trying to learn a second language is overcoming the notion that the way that ideas are expressed in their own language is the only/natural/logical ways to say something. Typically, this results in questions such as "Why do speakers of (whatever) language say "xxx" when we say "yyy-"?

If you restrict your studies to languages that are fairly closely related (Latin, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Romanian), you will find many similarities but if you extend your studies to totally unrelated languages (Swahili, Hindi, Chinese), you will quickly learn that there are many different ways to express an idea.

Your idea of the natural/best way to say something is only on of many ways.

HI megan, welcome to the forumsmile

Please use the title and the spelling correctly on this site, we are all learners herewink

Spanish has one great advantage: It is pronounced as it is written and has almost no exceptions to the few rules.

No exceptions to a few rules...What Spanish would that be? I must have overlooked it. - qfreed Nov 8

It depends on what your native language is. For English speakers it is fairly easy.

I believe that the more languages a person learns, the easier it gets. By this, I mean that if you are already bilingual or trilingual, it will be easier for you to learn another language. My opinion, of course.

It all depends on how much time and effort you put into it. It's you, in humble opinion, not so much as a timetable (is that one word?!) so to speak. I've said to others before, what you put into anything is what you get out of the experience. smile I hope this helps.

I think certain aspects of languages are easier to learn than others. For instance it is much easier for me to read and write in Spanish than it is for me to speak and understand what is spoken because I am highly visual learner. When it comes to speaking, I feel like my brain shuts off. On the other hand, I have a friend who is a fluent speaker of no less that 14 languages but can not read or write most of them because he is an oral learner. It will depend on your natural learning style and how much you practice in each area.
