I have heard both of these used for "for". How do you differentiate their use?

por favor

¿para cuando?

por = for is a preposition

para = for preposition

From the Spanishdict dictionary this web site

There is no easy way to explaind the difference. I'll have to look it up. I just know the difference by instinct. I went to another dictionary and they just give example.
