What is "To fight in a war"? Which form of fight do you use?

Need to know which form of the spanish word "fight" I should use for the sentence "He fought in WWII."

Right now, it's "Batalló en Segundo Guerra Mundial." But I'm not sure if Batalló is correct. Any help?
