Why is it that sometimes you gain 1 rep for voting for a question or answer and sometimes 0 rep?

  • I moved it the correct category. - Zoltán Nov 7, 2009 flag

Starcrafted:

You were "maxed out".

The maximum you can get for voting in favour of questions or answers in any 24 hour period is 10 points.

Your "capacity" Restores itself 24 hours after a vote is cast.. Look over your own reputation tab details on your profile page. There you can see when your voting points will become available again. At the time of writing this reply, it looks like you will once again get 1 point for each vote to that limit of 10 points in 24 hours.

Moe

  • That is the correct answer but I also get zeroes when I should get a point. - nizhoni1 Nov 7, 2009 flag
  • nizhoni1 - There is another limiting factor. If you already have 200 points for the day, you cannot "bump" it up by voting. So a max of 10 daily from votes but limited to 200 points from all sources. - Moe Nov 7, 2009 flag

It has been one of the greatest mysteries to me. There is a thread or two on this. I usually always receive zero. Once or twice a week I will earn two to three points total for the day, but that is a good day.

I was only frustrated with it because I thought it was a problem with my browser or computer, because I was having other problems as well. However, after trying different computers and browsers, I still earn only zero. It doesn't bother me. I still love voting for anyone with a good question or answer. smile smile

  • Ok cool I was just making sure my browser or something wasn't flawed. Thanx - Starcrafted Nov 7, 2009 flag
