For people that are not history buffs, or not from the United States or the americas etc.., they may not know christopher columbus "discovered" (I use this term loosely as to not start a debate here) the amercicas or the "new world" in 1492.
"Fighting terrorism since 1492" is a reference to this history and basically is a joke, meaning that the native americans / people who lived in the americas before columbus arrived, have been fighting 'terrorism' or 'any one not originating from the americas' since that year. A sort of reference to the slaughter of the indiginous people of america.
I'm not good at explaining things well, hope that clears up you confusion if that was indeed your question.
