A question of comprehension
I have progressed enough with my Spanish that I am able to read little western (cowboy) novels and understand a lot of what I read. I still have my dictionary and use it constantly while reading. Is there a time when an other-than-spanish speaking person reaches a point where you see the word written in spanish and do not have to change it to your mother tongue in your head.
I am having a hard time trying to make my point I hope others will understand what I am trying to say.

YES!!! Victory will be yours!! And at some point you will not be able to remember things in English...my husband has a wide Spanish vocabulary now, because if I am reading in Spanish and he speaks to me in English, I will many times blank out on a word and just substitute the Spanish.
By the way, could you look up "jump to conclusions" on your Franklin? I am going to get one before we go to Mexico; I can hardly wait. I am wondering what it says.
I think you expressed yourself very clearly. I am not even close to that level of thinking yet.

Yes, if you continue, you will get to that point. I have reached such levels of frustration with myself because I wouldn't be able to measure my progress, but then there would come a day and the 'miracle' would happen. It's almost stunning when you are listening to something in Spanish, and it just dawns on you, "hey, I understood that". Someone can ask me a question or something will come up in conversation (in English), and the thought will come into my head in Spanish and I will have to quickly 'translate' it back into English ![]()
