an "official sign seen along a Mexican highway: "Di no de la basura, por favor."

I think it means "don't dispose of garbage, please." But that seems a strange way to say it. The use of "di" amuses me.

Why not "no tire basura, por favor"?

Yes, Mexico is having a huge campaign on their highways "Di no a la basura", and - yes "Di no a las drogas" is on signs around bus stops.

HI Carlo, we would have said :

Di no a la basura.

say no to rubbish-

  • I may not have remembered it correctly. Yours is likely correct and makes sense. Thanks... Would that also work with "drogas?" As in "di no a las drogas"? - 005457e3 Nov 6, 2009 flag
