It is a false cognitive that I often hear used incorrectly by us Spanish learners. The English word 'Discuss', although it sounds similar and is probably related, frequently has a positive or neutral tone to it. Whereas 'duscutir" is rarely positive.

There are two words here that mean the same:
disputar --- disputa, another word for argue --- discutir.
contender --- to contend, to fight, argue --- discutir
