"voy a la playa".

The question is not properly constructed. First of all, made like that would be "¿adonde vas hoy?". In the verb "vas" is implicit that it is "you" who is going. Anyway, "adonde vas" is asked at the same moment. Means "where are you going RIGHT NOW"?. If you were to ask "where are you going today?" you would say "¿adonde vas a ir hoy?"

In english it is the same verb "are you going" whether it is at the moment or later, not in spanish.

Just type what you want into the "translate box" and see what happens. I will bet you find the answer easily.
