In the Blue Menu Bar at the top of the screen, you will see these “Tabs”:
Learn Spanish ── Flashcards ── Answers ── Translation ── Dictionary ── More
“Click” on the “Translation” tab
You will see a block that says, in suppressed print, “Enter a sentence or phrase”.
Type what you need translated into the block.
“Click” on “English to Spanish” or “Spanish to English” whichever is appropriate.
You will be presented with three translations They are unlikely to be the same. You must decide from among the three of them which one is the best translation. Or, select some part from all three of them.
When you have determined what you think is the best translation, enter it in a “Reply” area below in this Question/Post/Thread.
Ask if the translation is correct.
Someone will try to help you.
"What Spanish-language materials would you like the library to collect or to collect more of?" “¿Cuáles materiales del idioma español le gustaría usted que la biblioteca obtenga o aumente?”
This would be my best attempt at translating word for word the phrase above. However, I have learned that it takes more than translating words to get across an idea. So I have added two more suggestions below. The second suggestion is in the form of two questions, but is less complicated grammatically.
“¿Nos puede sugerir algunas cosas del idioma hispano que obtenga o aumente la biblioteca?”
“¿Quisiera sugerir a nosotros más cosas del idioma hispano que la biblioteca debe obtener? ¿Hay cosas que ya tenemos que pudieran aumentarse?”
“¿Nos puede sugerir algunas cosas del idioma hispano que obtenga o aumente la biblioteca?” hispano is not correct here. Should be el idioma Español.I dont know how to translate this. But, here is my try,.................................
¿Nos puede sugerir algunas cosas del idioma hispano que obtenga o aumente la biblioteca?......................................
¿Puede sugerirnos algunas otras cosas adicionales que la biblioteca pudiera obtener?....meaning.....................Would you sugest what additional things should the library obtain?
- Thanks for catching that Gus! You're right. There is no 'idioma hispano'. I was thinking of the misuse of the term 'Spanish' when refering to any spanish speaking person. But the language -idioma- that hispanics (or latinos) speak is indeed Spanish. :-) - chaparrito Oct 24, 2009 flag
