Finally! Hablé con mi maestra en Oaxaca. Fue difícil, pero divertido.

She had accidentally sent me an email that was intended for some guy she is unhappy with and so we had a good laugh over that. I said "Estoy feliz soy Kitty y no soy Juan."

And guess what!? She offered to call and talk to me every Saturday! Wow. Kitty

  • Kitty I put in the s you left out of maestra and I changed the accent to the middle i of difícil. - Eddy Oct 24, 2009 flag
  • Thank you! My teacher corrected me too, and I find that very helpful. It's one of the reasons I need to talk with other people so much. When I talk to myself, I don't get this kind of help. - kittybrougha Oct 24, 2009 flag
  • I keep talking to myself. It never helps. - nizhoni1 Oct 24, 2009 flag

Hi kitty

I would like to congratulate you on a job well done. You must have been extremely nervous but appear to have overcame this very inhibiting emotion. You will find that the next time she calls you will be more at ease.

Feels great, doesn't it? Last Thursday I spoke Spanish for the first time, to my colleague from the lanugage school. I gave her a lift home and as soon as we got into the car I asked: "Hablamos, ¿no?"

And I was soo proud, because when I told her that I´d been learning Spanish for four months, she said: "¡No me digas!" and told me that I was pretty good. I came home a few centimetres above the ground smile

¡¡Felicidades! Tell me again why you're talking to a teacher in Oaxaca. Are you going back to visit? I think I already mentioned that I'm going there again in January.

  • I am dripping with envy! This is just the teacher I had when I was there last July and she is doing this simply because she's so wonderful. I am hoping to go back next summer. - kittybrougha Oct 24, 2009 flag

Congratulations. I think it would be so much more difficult to carry a conversation on the phone than in face to face contact. Somehow facial expression helps me anchor context better. SO if you pulled that out it is a double success in my mind.

I think the preparation to speak with her was also excellent homework. I did a lot of writing thinking about how to say the things I wanted to when she called.
