por muchas razones "...for many reasons" the different uses for por and para is quite difficult. the easiest way is to try to substitute " for" for "in order to" and if you can do that, you definitely want to use para. for example "no tengo tiempo suficiente para terminar el ensayo" i do not have enough time to finish the essay. "ella hablaba por tres horas sobre la guerra" she was talking for three hours about the war.

If you still cannot identify which word to use, try to re-phrase your question based on the additional information you picked up in the Reference Article.

As Luhzon89 has said in his reply, "the different uses for por and para are quite difficult". I hope after reading the Reference Article it won't be quite so hard,
