How do I say this sentence in Spanish? I'm not sure how to say do, or does that translate over?

¿De quién sospechan los policías?

OK, but why does police come after the verb?

You will often find that when asking a question, the subject will follow the verb.

For example:

¿Qué piensas tú? - What do you think? [question]

(Yo) pienso que... - I think that... [statement]

¿De dónde es usted? - Where are you from? [question]

[Yo] Soy de Guatemala? - I am from Guatemala. [statement]

¿Cuando era la aprobaba la ley?

That was a good attempt, and I think that this is a good verb choice...let me just point out that you have two conjugated verbs (era and aprobaba) in a single clause which would be incorrect in both English and Spanish.

You have also used the imperfect (aprobaba) for a single defined event of the past which would be better suited (I believe) to the preterit (apropó).

That being said, it is probably better that you say something along the lines of:

¿Cuándo apropó la ley?

As an aside, if you have additional questions that are not directly related/encompassed by the original question then it is generally considered good form on this forum to post any additional (unrelated) questions on a new thread, that way others can find these questions easily by doing a search of previous threads and can benefit from any answers that you might receive.
